Building our baseline
In 2024 we focused on measurement — understanding exactly where we stood before committing to where we wanted to go.
- First-ever carbon footprint calculated — our baseline for all future reductions
- First waste audit (June 2024) — 51% recycled, 49% to landfill
- Composting training for team, guests & Coco Café operations
- Local pig farm partnership launched for food waste reuse
- Installed first solar water heater as pilot project
- Water per guest night: 0.25 m³ — within the efficient hotel benchmark of 0.25–0.35 m³
- 26% reduction in water consumption vs 2023

Art & Cultural Heritage
In 2024 we deepened our commitment to local artists — commissioning new work, supporting community-led creativity, and weaving Aruba's nature and heritage into every corner of the hotel.
- Commissioned Armando Goedgedrag to create a unique piece celebrating Aruba's hummingbirds as jewels of the garden
- Tana Gaxiola (Mexico) painted 4 in-room murals featuring Aruba's flora and fauna
- Guest rooms and common areas feature work by local artists Elisa Lejuez, Nigel Matthew, and Fernando Vermeer

Casita art partly created by participants in the Arte Sano Foundation — providing meaningful work to vulnerable members of Aruba's community

New programs, deeper roots
In 2024 we launched new ways for guests and our team to give back — and earned recognition for it.
- Won People's Choice Regenerative Travel Impact Award 2024
- Joined the Regenerative Travel Association
- Hosted Trampolin pa Trabao — two-week training program for young adults with disabilities
- Launched Donate a Crate — streamlining guest contributions to the Aruba Food Bank
- Launched internal Treasure Map Challenge — turning our team into true island ambassadors
- Introduced Boardwalk Sustainability Tour for guests and new team members

Our Boardwalk people in 2024
In 2024 our team initiatives included two standout moments of bottom-up sustainability — ideas born from the team itself.
- 74 happy people employed · 65% female · 14 nationalities
- Salaries +30% above Aruba's minimum wage
- Randolf (maintenance) developed a yeast-based mosquito trap — chemical-free and guest-friendly
- Suzanne & Miriam replaced plastic laundry bags with bags sewn from old linens and towels
