Reducing Plastic Waste:

  • All bathrooms are equipped with dispensers containing locally made Aruba Aloe bath products, eliminating the need for individual plastic soap bottles.
  • Guests receive complimentary “Join the Pipe” water bottles made from recycled sugar cane, infused water stations along with Aruba’s clean tap water have already saved over 30,000 plastic bottles from ending up in landfill.
  • Plastic waste is separated and recycled in partnership with Plastic Beach Party, which collects, sorts, shreds, designs, and molds plastic waste into new products in Aruba.
  • Mobile guest keys are used to further reduce plastic waste.

Reducing Paper Waste:

  • An integrated tech stack allows all of our departments to communicate and report via applications, discouraging the need to print.
  • Carton waste is separated and collected by local partner Ecotech.

Reducing and Reusing Green Waste:

  • Boardwalk’s garden waste is composted by local partner Fantastic Gardens Aruba, generating approximately 700 kg of compost per year.
  • On-site compost bins collect compostable waste, which is used as fertilizer for the hotel’s gardens. 83% of green waste was composted in 2024 which results in 11% less landfill waste.
  • Guest-room compost bins encourage guests to separate their compostable waste. Provided Nespresso coffee pods and teabags are also compostable.

Reducing Food Waste:

  • Guests can donate leftover non-perishable food items to Aruba’s Food Bank, with a donation station located in the lobby.
  • A top of the line inventory system ensures that we only purchase what we need and there is minimal waste due to overordering or spoilage.

Reducing Glass Waste:

  • Local glass bottles are returned to their suppliers for reuse.
  • All other glass bottles are recycled by our local partner Tropical Bottling.
  • The hotel serves as a collection point for the glassware of team members.

Reducing Chemical Waste:

  • Using biodegradable and eco-friendly detergents and ECOLAB cleaning products, which are better for the environment and housekeeping staff health.
  • Employing environmentally friendly pesticides and pest control to maintain gardens and minimize mosquito populations.
  • Using an eco-friendly salt solution in pools to maintain high-quality standards and provide a greener alternative to chemical and chlorine-based solutions.

A total of 51% of waste was recycled in 2024

Humming Bird in Boardwalk Garden

Biodiversity in our garden

Boardwalk thrives on a lush historic coconut plantation that we cherish. We’ve added 2300 trees and plants that produce 100 tons of oxygen annually and create a sanctuary for our much-loved birds, bees, and butterflies.

The gardens produce approximately 100 tons of oxygen annually and feature botanical signs explaining the origins of the plants. The trees provide natural shade, reducing the need for air conditioning, while offering a sanctuary for birds, bees, and butterflies. We also adopt local trees, giving them a second life in our vibrant gardens.

Hiking in Aruba

Protecting nature beyond the hotel

Our team is dedicated to sharing Aruba’s culture and heritage with guests through our signature treasure maps, social media posts, newsletters, and blog articles, highlighting the island’s history and hidden gems.

We educate our guests on how to protect Aruba’s environment, encouraging responsible behavior such as not driving on beaches, avoiding wildlife disturbance, and participating in beach cleanups. We avoid promoting activities that can harm nature, like ATV tours, and promote sustainability throughout their journey with the Do-Good program.
