Summer in Aruba: When the Island Exhales
Last updated: May 7, 2026
In summer, Aruba takes a moment to restore.
Beaches grow quieter. Restaurants welcome walk-ins. The trade wind feels a little softer, the days a little longer, and the whole island seems to exhale in a way it simply cannot when it's busy being everyone's favorite destination.
This is Aruba at its most honest. And honestly? It might be the best time to come.
Slow travel in Aruba: the best the island has to offer
Early mornings belong to the quieter side of the island.
The sun rises around 6am. A walk or run along the water. A climb up Hooiberg for sweeping 360-degree views before the heat settles in. Or Malmok and Tres Trapi with crystal clear, shallow water, and a good chance you'll share it with turtles, parrot fish, and the occasional stingray.
Not an early riser? Arikok National Park opens at 8am. Historic sites, caves, secluded bays, untouched nature. All the time in the world.
Midday is for stillness.
The heat decides for you. A long lunch that stretches past the point of caring. Finding shade. Letting the trade wind do what it does. This is not wasted time. This is the island teaching you its pace.
Once the afternoon softens, hit the road. Ayo and Casibari rock formations. Ancient petroglyphs, vast island views, almost no one else around. Or drive south to Boca Grandi, stop for an early bite at Zeerover in Savaneta, follow the coast all the way to the colorful murals of San Nicolas.
Days are made for the beach.
Long, unhurried hours on the sand. A book. A snorkel. A well-stocked cooler. Eagle Beach, recently named the #1 Best of the Best Beach in the Caribbean and #4 in the World by TripAdvisor, is one of those places that feels different in summer. On a Tuesday morning in July, it can feel like it belongs entirely to you.
Every evening ends at the water's edge.
Aruba's sunsets are famous for a reason. Deep, unhurried colour across the entire west coast. Eagle Beach. Arashi. The California Lighthouse. Or the quieter stretch at Cura Cabai, where the Battata Beach Bar lets you watch the sun disappear with a drink in hand and sand between your toes.
Sunsets here tend to linger. Let them.
