Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba Receives Green Globe Certification

Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba is proud to announce that it has officially received its first Green Globe Certification, following the successful completion of an extensive onsite audit in December 2025. The certification, valid through December 2026, recognizes the hotel’s commitment to sustainable hotel operations, environmental responsibility, and community engagement, in line with the internationally recognized Green Globe Standard 1.7 for hotels and resorts.

Green Globe Certification is a global sustainability program for travel and tourism businesses and a founding member of the Tourism Sustainability Certifications Alliance (TSCA), representing more than 19,000 certified tourism enterprises worldwide. This milestone places Boardwalk Boutique Hotel among a select group of hospitality leaders dedicated to protecting destinations while creating meaningful guest experiences.

For Boardwalk, sustainability is not a trend, it is a way of living, deeply rooted in Aruba’s island rhythm and respect for place.

  • Solar water heaters and water-saving fixtures
  • Towel and linen reuse programs to minimize waste

  • Strong partnerships with local recycling and composting partners

Biodiversity in Our Garden

  • Over 2,300 trees and plants added to our tropical gardens
  • Production of approximately 100 tons of oxygen per year
  • Creation of thriving habitats for birds, bees, and butterflies

Protecting Aruba Beyond Our Gates

Sustainability at Boardwalk extends far beyond our hotel grounds. Guests and team members are encouraged to engage with Aruba’s natural beauty and preservation efforts through eco-initiatives such as beach cleanups, environmental education, and guided experiences that highlight the island’s unique ecosystems.

Our Do-Good Program makes it easy for guests to participate in 14 meaningful initiatives, including composting, reusable water bottle programs, local food bank support, and nature protection efforts, ensuring that every stay can leave a positive footprint.

Honoring Art, Culture & Heritage

Boardwalk’s sustainability journey is deeply intertwined with Aruba’s cultural identity:

  • Every guest casita features artwork by Aruban artists, including pieces from the Arte Sano Foundation, supporting prisoner rehabilitation and reintegration
  • Live art sessions in the gardens and on the beach transform the property into a living gallery
  • Our Artist in Residence Program welcomes creatives from around the world to leave behind legacy works inspired by the island
  • The hotel’s historic location honors Palm Beach’s origins as a coconut and date palm plantation

Each casita invites guests to “live like a local,” embracing Aruba’s relaxed lifestyle through architecture, design, music, and cuisine.

Uplifting Our Community

We proudly collaborate with local organizations and initiatives that strengthen Aruba’s social fabric, including Fundacion pa Nos Comunidad, Santa’s Cause Foundation, Trampolin pa Trabou, Sgt. Pepper’s Friends, and Donkey Sanctuary Aruba. From animal welfare to cultural restoration and youth development, these partnerships help ensure tourism gives back meaningfully to the destination.

Caring for Our Team

A sustainable hotel begins with a thriving team. Boardwalk fosters an inclusive, growth-minded workplace with:

  • Continuous training and education programs
  • Leadership development and regenerative hospitality courses
  • A diverse team representing 14 nationalities, 65% women
  • Well-being initiatives including health coverage, mental health support, and joyful team traditions

Looking Ahead

The Green Globe Certification joins Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba’s growing list of recognitions, including two MICHELIN Keys, the Regenerative Travel People’s Choice Impact Award, and Travelife Gold Certification, held since 2021. The hotel also published its first Impact Report in 2024, highlighting measurable sustainability progress and future goals.

As General Manager Mickael Mesker shares, “Sustainable hotel operations play a huge role in realizing our commitment to genuine happiness, for our guests, our team, our community, and our planet.”

This certification is both a proud milestone and a powerful motivator to continue protecting Aruba as a paradise for generations to come.
